Nigerian Government Traces Binance Executive Nadeem Anjarwalla to Kenya: Extradition Efforts Underway

The Nigerian government has made significant progress in the case involving Nadeem Anjarwalla, a high-ranking executive of Binance, as they have successfully traced his whereabouts to Kenya. Anjarwalla had managed to escape custody in Nigeria, but his cover was blown upon his arrival in Kenya, according to a report from Nigerian media outlet The Punch.

There have been intensified discussions between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Kenyan Police Service to expedite Anjarwalla’s extradition back to Nigeria to face the charges against him.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed that the commission was working with global authorities, including INTERPOL, the United States FBI, the governments of the UK, Northern Ireland, and Kenya, to ensure Anjarwalla’s return. The charges against Binance Holdings Limited and its chief executives, including Anjarwalla, involve tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering amounting to $35.4 million.

In a separate development, Tigran Gambaryan, another detained Binance executive, pleaded not guilty to money laundering charges in Nigeria. Gambaryan argued that he should not be held accountable for Binance’s activities in Nigeria, as he does not have decision-making authority in the company’s operations. However, the judge ruled that Gambaryan acted as Binance’s representative during previous trips to Nigeria, citing local laws.

The case involving Gambaryan has been adjourned until April 19, with a hearing for bail consideration further adjourned to April 18. The Nigerian government is actively working with global authorities to ensure that both Anjarwalla and Gambaryan face justice for the charges against them. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
