Piedmont Lithium Receives Approval for Carolina Lithium Project in North Carolina
Piedmont Lithium has just received approval from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality for its mining permit to construct, operate, and reclaim the Carolina lithium project in Gaston County, North Carolina. This project is set to produce an impressive 30,000 metric tons of lithium hydroxide per year.
“This is an exciting day for all of us at Piedmont Lithium,” said President and CEO Keith Phillips. “Our team has worked tirelessly for over two and a half years to ensure that every aspect of the project met the state’s high standards for approval. We plan to develop Carolina Lithium as one of the lowest-cost, most sustainable lithium hydroxide operations in the world, and as a critical part of the American electric vehicle supply chain. The project is expected to contribute billions of dollars of economic output and several hundred jobs to Gaston County and North Carolina’s growing electrification economy.”
In addition to the Carolina project, Piedmont Lithium has partnerships in Quebec with Sayona Mining and in Ghana with Atlantic Lithium. The company is also working on developing downstream processing facilities.
This approval marks a significant milestone for Piedmont Lithium and solidifies their position in the lithium market. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project.
