Former Federal Reserve Bank of New York Compliance Officer Joins Binance.US Board
The appointment of Martin Grant to Binance.US’s board of directors marks a significant move for the cryptocurrency exchange as it looks to strengthen its ties to Washington. Grant, a former chief compliance and ethics officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, brings with him decades of regulatory, legal, and compliance experience.
In a blog post announcing the appointment, Binance.US highlighted Grant’s extensive background in legal and compliance-focused roles within U.S. government bodies, particularly during his time at the New York Fed. Grant’s expertise will be crucial as Binance.US navigates the current regulatory challenges in the U.S. digital asset industry.
Grant expressed his excitement about joining Binance.US, stating that he looks forward to guiding the future of one of the country’s most influential and customer-centric crypto platforms. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Binance.US, following the recent resignation of founder and ex-CEO Changpeng Zhao as chairman of the board.
Binance and Zhao recently pleaded guilty to anti-money laundering and sanctions violations, resulting in hefty fines. While Binance.US was not part of this agreement, it is currently facing enforcement action from the SEC for allegedly offering unregistered securities to American investors.
Grant’s addition to the board of directors comes shortly after Binance announced the formation of its first-ever board, chaired by Gabriel Abed, the former ambassador of Barbados to the UAE. With Grant’s expertise and experience, Binance.US is poised to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape and continue its growth as a leading cryptocurrency platform in the U.S.
