Tools for Humanity Launching World Chain Blockchain Built on Optimism Layer-2 Protocol
Tools for Humanity, the developers behind the proof-of-personhood eye-scanning Worldcoin project, have announced the upcoming launch of the World Chain blockchain later this year. This new blockchain, built on top of the Ethereum network using a “superchain” from layer-2 provider Optimism, will utilize ETH as its native token and Worldcoin (WLD) for gas fees.
Tiago Sada, head of product, engineering, and design at Tools for Humanity, explained that the decision to create World Chain was driven by the overwhelming activity of Worldcoin users on the Optimism mainnet. With over 2 million active users daily, Worldcoin represents a significant portion of Optimism’s activity, necessitating a dedicated network for the project.
The World Chain project aims to provide a faster and more efficient platform for Worldcoin users, with a focus on scalability and user experience. By leveraging the expertise of the team behind Worldcoin for Optimism, Tools for Humanity is confident in the success of the new blockchain.
Worldcoin’s technology, including the World ID verification system, has already garnered over 10 million users in 160 countries since its launch in 2022. The project’s goal of verifying users as real humans, rather than bots, has resonated with a global audience.
Despite some controversies surrounding privacy concerns, Tools for Humanity maintains that Worldcoin and its related technologies prioritize user privacy and data security. The integration with Microsoft’s Minecraft and the recent open-sourcing of core components demonstrate the project’s commitment to transparency and accessibility.
As Worldcoin prepares for the launch of World Chain, the WLD token has seen a 4.4% increase in value since the announcement. With the promise of enhanced functionality and user benefits, World Chain is poised to make a significant impact in the blockchain space.
