Binance Co-founder He Yi Confident Ahead of Changpeng Zhao’s Sentencing in the U.S.
Binance co-founder He Yi remains optimistic about the future of former CEO Changpeng Zhao as he faces sentencing in the United States. Despite Zhao’s admission of guilt to a felony charge related to AML program failures at Binance, Yi believes that his current situation in the U.S. is “largely peaceful.”
During a recent Binance Chinese Meetup in Dubai, Yi assured attendees that regulatory pressures on Zhao have been anticipated internally and that the current circumstances are the most optimal outcome. Zhao is set to be sentenced in the United States after stepping down as CEO and agreeing to a $4.3 billion settlement to resolve civil regulatory enforcement actions.
While U.S. sentencing guidelines allow for a jail term of up to 10 years, observers speculate that Zhao’s cooperation and guilty plea could lead to a more lenient sentence. The court has already ordered Zhao to surrender his Canadian passport and remain in the U.S. until after sentencing.
As the cryptocurrency community awaits Zhao’s fate, He Yi’s confidence in his situation offers a glimmer of hope for Binance and its stakeholders. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story on Coin Edition.
