Clandestine Crypto Mining Operation Stealing Energy Worth Almost G. 2,000 Million per Month Uncovered in Saltos del Guairá
The discovery of a clandestine crypto mining operation in Saltos del Guairá has shocked the community, as it was revealed that the establishment was stealing energy worth almost G. 2,000 million per month. The National Police, the Public Ministry, and the National Electricity Administration (Ande) joined forces to dismantle the illegal operation.
During a raid on the establishment, authorities confiscated 833 cryptoasset processors that were connected irregularly to the electrical grid using high-capacity transformers. The total installed power of the operation was a staggering 7,000 kVA, leading to an estimated monthly property damage of G. 1,922 million.
Eduardo Falcón, the regional head of Ande, stated that the agency has filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office for crimes including theft of electrical energy, disruption of public services, and sabotage. The prosecutor in charge of the case, Ramón Javier Ferreira, has sealed off the establishment and appointed a fiscal depository on site.
