Cryptocurrency Investors Inject $4.5m into Non-League Football Club, Real Bedford FC
Non-league football club Real Bedford FC has received a major boost with a $4.5 million investment from cryptocurrency investors Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. The twins, known for their involvement in Bitcoin and founding Gemini, will become co-owners of the club alongside podcaster Peter McCormack.
McCormack, who purchased the club in 2021 with aspirations of turning it into a Premier League team, welcomed the investment from Winklevoss Capital. The funds will be used for the development of a new training center, a football academy, and to support girls and youth football.
Tyler Winklevoss expressed excitement about working with McCormack, stating, “We share in Peter’s deep conviction in Bitcoin and its ability to supercharge RBFC’s quest to make it into the Premier League.” His brother Cameron added, “We’re not just investing in a football club. We’re investing in a dream to bring Premier League football to Bedford.”
The investment comes at a time when Bitcoin’s value is at an all-time high, making it a strategic move for the Winklevoss brothers. RBFC currently leads the Spartan South Midlands Football League Premier Division, and McCormack believes the backing from the Winklevoss twins will further support the club’s growth and impact on the local community.
Gemini began sponsoring the club in January 2022, and the investment will also establish a Bitcoin treasury to secure the club’s long-term ambitions. With the support of the Winklevoss brothers, Real Bedford FC is poised to make significant strides towards achieving its goal of reaching the Premier League.
