Federal High Court Adjourns Bail Hearing for Detained Binance Executive
The bail hearing for detained Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, has been adjourned by the Federal High Court in Abuja until April 23. The hearing was postponed following a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel for more time to respond to a further affidavit presented by Mr. Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi, SAN.
During the proceedings, Mr. Iheanacho, representing the EFCC, stated that he needed time to review the content of the affidavit served by Mr. Mordi. However, Mr. Mordi argued that both parties could respond immediately to expedite the bail application process, emphasizing the importance of his client’s liberty.
Justice Emeka Nwite granted the adjournment in the interest of justice, highlighting the constitutional right for both parties to respond within the stipulated time frame. Mr. Gambaryan had previously pleaded not guilty to money laundering charges and was remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre.
The EFCC accused Binance Holdings Limited, Mr. Gambaryan, and another agent of the company of conspiring to conceal the origin of financial proceeds from alleged unlawful activities in Nigeria. The charges include offenses under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The case highlights the ongoing legal battle surrounding financial crimes and the importance of due process in the judicial system. Stay tuned for updates on the bail application hearing for Tigran Gambaryan.
