EigenLayer’s Mainnet Expands with Coinbase and Google Cloud as Node Operators, Strengthening Network Security
EigenLayer’s mainnet recently expanded with the addition of Coinbase and Google Cloud as node operators, enhancing the network’s security and reliability. This move comes shortly after the network’s mainnet went live, showcasing the growing interest and support for EigenLayer’s protocol.
Coinbase Cloud announced their participation as one of the first operators for EigenLayer, emphasizing the added security layer their collaboration brings to projects utilizing EigenLayer’s mainnet. They highlighted their experienced team and reliable standards that have powered validators across multiple networks without any slashing incidents.
Similarly, Google Cloud has been actively involved in EigenLayer’s ecosystem, participating in the testnet since November 2023. This move further solidifies Google’s presence in the Web3 infrastructure space, offering services like validator management and node hosting for various blockchains.
EigenLayer’s protocol leverages Ethereum tokens staked on the Ethereum network to enhance security, allowing stakers to “restake” their assets and secure multiple networks within the EigenLayer ecosystem. With industry-leading cloud providers like Coinbase Cloud and Google Cloud joining EigenLayer, the network’s ecosystem is expected to grow significantly.
In addition to the node operators’ expansion, EigenLayer recently received a $100 million investment from Andreessen Horowitz and launched its mainnet and data availability layer, EigenDA. Operators participating in EigenLayer’s mainnet can provide services and process transactions for rewards, indicating a positive outlook for the network’s future.
Google Cloud’s involvement in running nodes for blockchain projects is not new, as the tech giant established a blockchain division in 2022 and launched the Blockchain Node Engine to manage node-hosting for Web3 development. Their collaboration with protocols like Polygon further showcases their commitment to supporting blockchain projects and accelerating their growth.
As EigenLayer continues to attract top industry players and expand its ecosystem, the network’s security and reliability are expected to strengthen, offering a robust infrastructure for projects building on its mainnet.
