INTERPOL Working to Extradite Binance Executive Who Escaped from Custody in Nigeria

The international police organization, INTERPOL, is on a mission to ensure that Nadeem Anjarwalla, an executive of the global crypto-currency firm Binance, who escaped from lawful custody in Nigeria in March, is brought to justice. AIG Garba Baba Umar (rtd), the vice president for the Africa INTERPOL executive committee, made this known during a television programme on African Independent Television (AIT).

Anjarwalla is believed to be hiding in Kenya, a member country of INTERPOL. Umar emphasized the importance of international police cooperation in extraditing fugitives who commit crimes in one country and flee to another. He assured that INTERPOL is working diligently to apprehend Anjarwalla and hand him over to the authorities in Nigeria.

Despite the challenges of locating Anjarwalla, Umar expressed confidence that he will eventually be brought back to face justice in Nigeria. He also clarified that INTERPOL was not involved in the extradition of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from Kenya to Nigeria.

In March, the federal government sought INTERPOL’s assistance in arresting Anjarwalla, who is facing money laundering and tax evasion charges alongside another Binance executive in Nigeria. The case highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating financial crimes and ensuring that individuals are held accountable for their actions.
