Nigerian Government Pursuing Extradition of Fleeing Binance Executive Nadeem Arjarwalla from Kenya
The Nigerian government is on the hunt for the fleeing Binance executive Nadeem Arjarwalla, who has been traced to Kenya after escaping custody. According to reports, Arjarwalla went into hiding upon arriving in Kenya, but his whereabouts have now been revealed, sparking a potential extradition process.
The Nigerian government is working with international security agencies like Interpol and Kenyan law enforcement to bring Arjarwalla back to Nigeria to face charges. Arjarwalla, along with another Binance executive, was detained following allegations of manipulating the country’s fiat currency, the naira.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) took over the investigation from the National Security Adviser, charging the executives with money laundering. However, Arjarwalla managed to escape custody and board a flight out of Abuja, despite his British passport being held by Nigerian authorities.
It is reported that Arjarwalla fled Nigeria using a Kenyan passport, raising questions about how he obtained it while in custody. Meanwhile, his colleague has pleaded not guilty to charges and his case has been adjourned until April 19.
Binance announced its decision to halt all naira transactions and delist NGN trading pairs in late February, following suspicions of illicit transactions by crypto exchanges in Nigeria. The Central Bank of Nigeria governor also raised concerns about “suspicious flows” of money at Binance.
As the saga continues to unfold, the Nigerian government is determined to bring Arjarwalla back to face justice, while his supporters call for his release. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
