CryptoPunk Alien Punk Sells for $12.38 Million in Ethereum: Another Record-Breaking Sale in NFT Market
In the world of NFTs, CryptoPunks continue to reign supreme as one of the most coveted collections, with yet another jaw-dropping sale making headlines. Punk #635, an ultra-rare Alien Punk from the Ethereum NFT collection, fetched a staggering $12.38 million in Ethereum (ETH) during a recent transaction.
This sale marks just the latest in a series of high-profile transactions involving Alien Punks, with previous sales reaching near-record amounts. In March, Punk #3100 was sold for $16.03 million worth of ETH, followed by Punk #7804 selling for $16.42 million in ETH shortly after. The largest CryptoPunks sale to date occurred in early 2022 when an Alien Punk was purchased for over $23.7 million.
While these transactions are among the most expensive in NFT history, they still fall short of the record-breaking sale of “Everydays: The First 5,000 Days” by Beeple, which fetched $69.3 million at auction in 2021. The enduring popularity and value of CryptoPunks as rare cultural artifacts have solidified their position in the NFT market, even as other collections struggle to maintain their value.
Collections like the Bored Ape Yacht Club, once highly sought-after, have seen their assets’ value plummet by over 90% since the market downturn in mid-2022. Similarly, collections like Azuki and Doodles have experienced significant drops in their price floors, highlighting the unique staying power of CryptoPunks in the ever-evolving world of NFTs.
