Apple iMessage Exploit: Trust Wallet Warns Users of High-Risk Attack Vector
Trust Wallet, a popular self-custodial crypto wallet provider backed by Binance, has issued a warning to iPhone and iOS users about a high-risk attack vector that hackers can exploit through Apple iMessage. The startup cited “credible intel” pointing to a zero-day exploit on Apple’s default messenger that has reportedly been present on the tech giant’s devices since day one.
While Trust Wallet did not disclose the source of the information or confirm any crypto losses incurred by users, they recommended disabling iMessage completely from Apple settings as a precautionary measure until a security patch is issued. At the time of the alert, Apple had not addressed or denied the claims made by Trust Wallet.
This is not the first time Apple has been in the crypto crosshair, as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) previously reported a security flaw in the iOS version of the Binance-owned application. Trust Wallet’s warning comes on the heels of another crypto wallet solution, UniSat, notifying users of a fake version of its decentralized storage solution on the iOS app store.
In light of these security concerns, industry experts like Errata Security CEO Robert Graham have advised users with significant crypto holdings to consider moving their assets off iOS devices. As the crypto community awaits a security patch from Apple, it is crucial for users to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their digital assets.
