Square Enix Collaborates with Animoca Brands on Crypto-Based Game “Symbiogenesis”
Square Enix, the renowned developer behind popular JRPG titles like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, is diving into the world of cryptocurrency with its latest project. The company has partnered with a major metaverse investment firm, Animoca Brands, to work on a crypto-based game called “Symbiogenesis.”
“Symbiogenesis” is a PC narrative adventure game set in a devastated high fantasy world where players can roleplay as their Ethereum NFT avatars. The game will feature a collection of 10,000 Ethereum NFTs that players can interact with on the Polygon network. An NFT is required to access the game and its world.
The collaboration between Square Enix and Animoca Brands will focus on strengthening marketing efforts for “Symbiogenesis” and promoting the game’s NFT collection. Animoca Brands Japan will provide support in expanding the game’s reach in Japan and overseas, as well as in NFT sales and collaboration with other portfolio companies.
This isn’t the first time Square Enix and Animoca Brands have worked together. In the past, Square Enix invested in Animoca’s NFT game “The Sandbox” and launched Final Fantasy VII-based NFTs on the Polygon network. The company has also made investments in Bitcoin gaming platforms and PC launcher apps.
